Dear Friends,

We are excited and grateful to offer this 2022-23 season of Early Music. Making music during this extended COVID time has not been easy, but we hope you agree: music is a much-needed balm for the soul.  As you will see below - our coming season is a delight! We offer two Renaissance programs: an intimate one, featuring vocal music from Munich, and a return of the wonderful Chatham Baroque quartet. A celebration of music from Versailles opens the New Year, and a String Quartet program from early 19th C Vienna closes out the Season. All these chamber programs take place at our usual venue: the historic First Unitarian Church on Benefit St. There is free parking in the church lot, and it’s handicapped accessible is from the Benevolent St side.

We delight in bringing neglected works to the public, and the occasional well-worn favorite too. We hope you will consider subscribing to the series, and please give as generously as you are able, and help us bring the best of early music to Rhode Island. To open the season on Sept 18th, our own Providence Baroque Orchestra teams up with Schola Cantorum to present Bach’s wonderful Missa Brevis in A major. The acoustics of St Martin’s Church in Wayland Square suit this music perfectly (and plenty of parking does not hurt!)

We have planned an additional benefit concert as well, outside of the subscription series– Michael Bahmann and Paul Ciennewa will perform Bach’s Art of Fugue on Sat Nov 26 at 3 pm in a lovely Carriage House on the East Side, followed by Kaffee und Kuchen (Coffee and Cake). Details will follow on the website, where we will also publish any COVID precautions needed as the year unfolds. We look forward to seeing you at the concerts. Please tell four friends about our wonderful and varied programs – the best place to be on Sunday afternoons in Providence!
